چکیده
داستان «کوپن جعلی» از واپسین آثار لف تالستوی است که مسئلهی منشأ شرّ، مسئولیت اخلاقی و امکان گسست چرخهی خشونت را در قالب ساختاری دوپاره روایت میکند. هدف پژوهش تبیین سازوکار گسترش و توقف شرّ در داستان بر پایهی اخلاق متأخر تالستوی و بررسی ظرفیت تبیینی مفاهیم «دیگری» و «مسئولیت نامتقارن» در فلسفهی امانوئل لویناس است. پژوهش حاضر از نوع کیفی است که با راهبرد هرمنوتیک فلسفی و روش توصیفی-تحلیلی انجام شده و بر منابع کتابخانهای تکیه دارد. در این خوانش، ساختار روایی و کنش شخصیتها بر اساس شواهد متنی تحلیل و نسبت آنها با مفاهیم «شرّ»، «مسئولیت»، «دیگری»، «توبه» و «بخشایش» تبیین شده است. همچنین مفهوم باختینی «عدمعذر در هستی» بهعنوان حلقهی واسط برای توضیح نسبت میان مسئولیت فردی و پاسخگویی در برابر دیگری به کار گرفته شد. یافتهها نشان میدهد در بخش نخست، شرّ از طریق زنجیرهای از کنشهای کوچک و ظاهراً مستقل گسترش مییابد و عذرتراشی، انکار یا انتقال مسئولیت، امکان تداوم این زنجیره را فراهم میکند. در بخش دوم، گسست این روند با مواجهه با دیگری و پذیرش مسئولیت آغاز میشود؛ توبه زمینهی دگرگونی اخلاقی شخصیتها را فراهم میکند و بخشایش، با کنار گذاشتن منطق تلافی، امکان توقف چرخهی خشونت را پدید میآورد. تحلیل لویناسی نشان میدهد که مفاهیمی چون «چهره» و «مسئولیت نامتقارن» میتوانند بخشی از این دگرگونی اخلاقی را تبیین کنند، بیآنکه جایگزین خوانش دینی و اخلاقی خودِ تالستوی شوند. بر این اساس، «کوپن جعلی» را میتوان روایتی از گذار از انکار مسئولیت به پذیرش مسئولیت و از تکثیر شرّ به گسست آن دانست.

Philosophical-Ethical Analysis of the Chain of Evil and the Mechanism of Forgiveness in Leo Tolstoy’s “The Forged Coupon”: A Reading Based on the “Ethics of Responsibility” in the Thought of Emmanuel Levinas

The False Coupon, one of Leo Tolstoy’s later works, explores the origins of evil, moral responsibility, and the possibility of breaking the cycle of violence through a bipartite narrative structure. This study aims to explain the mechanisms through which evil spreads and is interrupted in the story, drawing on Tolstoy’s late ethical thought and examining the explanatory potential of Emmanuel Levinas’s concepts of the “Other” and “asymmetrical responsibility.” This qualitative study employs philosophical hermeneutics as its research strategy and a descriptive-interpretive method, drawing on library-based sources. The narrative structure and characters’ actions are analyzed through textual evidence and interpreted in relation to the concepts of evil, responsibility, the Other, repentance, and forgiveness. Bakhtin’s concept of “non-alibi in being” is also employed as an intermediary concept for explaining the relation between individual responsibility and responsiveness to the Other. The findings show that, in the first part, evil spreads through a chain of seemingly independent actions in which excuses, denial, and the transfer of responsibility enable its continuation. In the second part, the process is reversed through an encounter with the Other and the acceptance of responsibility; repentance initiates the characters’ moral transformation, while forgiveness, by rejecting retaliation, makes it possible to interrupt the cycle of violence. The Levinasian framework helps explain this moral transformation without replacing Tolstoy’s own religious and ethical perspective. Thus, The False Coupon can be read as a narrative of the transition from denial to acceptance of responsibility and from the proliferation of evil to its interruption.
