Abstract

Love is a phenomenon or common pain of all human beings whose obvious manifestation is pure love based on a monogamous system, mainly crystallized in Persian poetry in the form of Masnavi. In this study, while comparing this issue with other manifestations of love in the classical works of world literature, especially the masterpieces of Persian and Arabic lyrical literature, Nizami’s poetry was analyzed using Levinas's moralistic approach. After comparing some of the stories and characters of Nizami’ Khamsa with similar cases, it was concluded that the poet imposed the features of monogamic love on the early narratives, revealing that Nizami, both in practice and text, appreciates the heroes of such stories with strong adherence to pure love, unquestionable love, and formal marriage and monogamy system, as well as strong characterization.
